Zwigato Hindi Movie (2023) Movie Story
After losing his job as a factory-floor manager due to the pandemic, Manas ( Kapil Sharma) finds himself struggling to make ends meet. To support his family, he decides to become a driver for Zwigato, a food-delivery app. However, the job is not as easy as he initially thought it would be. Manas faces various challenges, from navigating through the busy streets of the city to dealing with impatient customers.
Meanwhile, Manas’s wife Pratima (Shahana Goswami) tries to contribute to the family income by applying for a job as a cleaning staff at a local mall. As the couple tries to balance their work and personal life, the daily grind begins to take a toll on them.
Manas, who had always believed in being the sole breadwinner of the family, now realizes the importance of his wife’s contribution. He learns to respect her efforts and acknowledges that she is an equal partner in their journey. Manas confronts his old-fashioned ideas and embraces a more modern and egalitarian approach to managing the household.

Zwigato Hindi Movie (2023) Movie Review
Director and co-writer Nandita Das provides a glimpse into this world through the character of Manas Mahto (played by Kapil Sharma). However, this also serves as an opportunity to shed light on the challenges faced by a particular societal class (the labor force) as a result of insufficient employment prospects.
The movie portrays Manas’s daily grind as he struggles to make ends meet, while his wife, Pratima (played by Shahana Goswami), searches for employment to support the family financially, despite his objections. We are introduced to the concept of “incentives,” which the app companies dangle in front of their drivers, leading them down a slippery slope of striving to complete as many deliveries as possible, all the while being exploited at various levels. As Manas remarks, “Woh majboor hai, is liye mazdoor hai” (He’s a laborer because he’s helpless), correcting a placard slogan that reads, “Woh mazdoor hai, is liye majboor hai” (He’s helpless because he’s a laborer).
The film delicately touches upon the deeply ingrained class and gender discrimination prevalent in our society. The strain of hopelessness and despair is palpable throughout the movie, making it a poignant and thought-provoking watch. However, while it is well known that the economy, social system, and politics are interconnected, Zwigato tries to incorporate too much in the film. At times, it appears as a series of disjointed events pieced together, which affects the flow of the story. Although the first half of the movie sets the stage at its own pace, the second half moves forward at a sluggish pace, with several scenes feeling drawn out. Certain sequences, such as an activist named Govindraj (played by Swanand Kirkire) leading a protest or a person of a different faith being targeted, seem to be awkwardly shoehorned in.
Nandita Das and co-writer Samir Patil skillfully present a relatable and authentic tale, while cinematographer Ranjan Palit brilliantly captures the everyday world of commoners through the grimy alleyways of Bhubaneshwar, where the story takes place. By avoiding showcasing Odisha’s grand architecture and picturesque beauty, the film’s authenticity is further enhanced. A noteworthy aspect of the movie is the stop-motion animation during the end credits, accompanied by the soulful tune of “Yeh Raat.” Shahana Goswami delivers a captivating performance, showcasing her exceptional acting skills through her impeccable Jharkhand accent, body language, and mannerisms. Meanwhile, Kapil Sharma surprises audiences with his portrayal of Manas – a loving but conditioned-to-be-misogynistic husband, snarky father, frustrated worker, and desperate man. He effortlessly sinks into the role, shedding his usual over-the-top comedian persona.
Manas’s character is depicted as deeply dissatisfied with his circumstances, yet the film’s conclusion appears simplistic and abrupt, lacking conviction in its attempt to convey that life goes on for people in similar situations.
While the movie may move at a sluggish pace, it is still worth watching for its meaningful message and exceptional performances. Above all, the film successfully evokes empathy towards those who work in low-paying or menial jobs to make our daily lives more comfortable. It’s a thought-provoking reminder to appreciate and acknowledge the struggles of the labor class, and to recognize the importance of their contributions to society.
