WBPSC Civil Service Recruitment 2023 Exam Pattern

The West Bengal Civil Service (Exe.) Exam 2023 is conducted in three stages – Preliminary Exam, Main Exam, and Personality Test. Here’s a brief overview of the exam pattern for each stage:

Preliminary Exam: The Preliminary Exam covers eight subjects 200 marks including English Composition, General Science, Current events of national and international importance, History of India, Geography of India, Indian Polity and Economy, Indian National Movement, and General Mental Ability, with a special focus on West Bengal.

Main Exam: The main exam consists of six compulsory papers and one optional paper of 200 marks each. Each paper in the exam has a duration of 3 hours. The six compulsory papers are – (a) Paper I – Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali (compulsory), (b) Paper II – English (compulsory), (c) Paper III – General Studies I, (d) Paper IV – General Studies II, (e) Paper V – The Constitution of India and Indian Economy, including role and functions of Reserve Bank of India, and (f) Paper VI – Arithmetic and Test of Reasoning.

Personality Test: The Personality Test is conducted to assess the candidate’s personality, intelligence, and suitability for the civil services. The test is of 200 marks, and candidates are interviewed by a panel of experts.

Once a candidate clears the Preliminary Exam, they become eligible to appear for the Main Exam. Candidates who clear the Main Exam are called for the Personality Test. The final merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained by candidates in the Main Exam and Personality Test.
